Adrian Newey’s shock alternative to Ferrari for 2025

Adrian Newey is the most successful designer in the history of Formula 1. The 65-year-old has won over a dozen championships in his long and illustrious career. However, the Briton decided to leave Red Bull in early 2025 after rumors of tensions within the team. Ferrari is believed to be the ideal option for Newey. However, there might be a shock alternative for the aero-genius.

Scuderia Ferrari is rumored to be willing to offer Adrian Newey a massive contract for next season. Team Principal Fred Vasseur reportedly even met the aero-genius before the Miami GP. However, Newey has not commented on such speculation. With his manager and former F1 team owner Eddie Jordan claiming that the 65-year-old might take some time off from the sport.

However, Williams Team Principal James Vowles has revealed that he has held initials talks with Newey. Vowles is on a mission to re-establish the Grove-based as a front-runner in the sport. As such, Adrian Newey would be the perfect choice to lead its technical department. Although, the question arises, why should Adrian Newey consider joining Williams Racing?

Williams remains an unfinished chapter for Adrian Newey

Newey joined Williams in 1991. The 65-year-old played a pivotal role in the team’s rise during this period and championship victories of Nigel Mansell, Alain Prost, Damon Hill, and Jacques Villeneuve. However, tensions with Patrick Head and Sir Frank Williams kept increasing as Adrian Newey was left out of important decisions. This forced the aero genius to switch to McLaren in 1997.

Williams last won an F1 title in 1997 with a car which still had Newey’s influence .In his book, ‘How to build a car,’ the aero genius mentioned that it was sad to see the team fall behind in the coming years. Now with James Vowles’ leadership, the Grove-based team is finally overcoming decades of lack of investment. Moreover, the British team is starting from a clean slate with Vowles at the helm.

In 2005, when Adrian Newey joined Red Bull, he had mentioned it was a project which he could help build from the start. This enticed the 65-year-old to join Milton Keynes and make it a championship contender. Almost two decades later, Williams could be a similar opportunity, this time with the history of a heritage team.

On the other hand, Ferrari presents the chance for Newey to finally work with Lewis Hamilton, something he wants to do before the end of his career. However, the Briton had rejected a ‘Hollywood star-like’ offer from the Scuderia a decade ago. Adrian Newey does not like to work in places marred by politics. This was the reason for the 65-year-old’s exit from McLaren in 2005. Ferrari is infamous for intra-team politics. However, Fred Vasseur has managed to turn things around at Maranello so far.

If Adrian Newey does continue in F1, Ferrari remains his best option, the most successful F1 team with Lewis Hamilton joining the squad next season. However, Williams would allow Newey to finish a chapter in his career and pay homage to Late Frank Williams by bringing his team back to the front of the grid. Nevertheless, fans be eagerly waiting to know Newey’s next destination.
